About me

Originally from the Appalachian mountains of Southwest Virginia, I grew up exploring the beautiful natural areas around me. Coming from three generations of artists, art has always been a part of my life. I studied Natural Resources and Fine Arts at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee; never being able to choose between art and science. After school, I began working for the National Park Service, which took me on an odyssey across the US, working in some of the most remote and beautiful places in the country. Scientific Illustration seemed like a perfect way to combine my love of science and art, so I enrolled in the Natural Science Illustration program at the University of Washington in 2009.

I have used my science illustration for artwork ranging from logos to letterpress printing to scientific posters to metalwork, but I love anything that lets me discover the details in nature. I especially cherish being able to dust off my botany skills and delve into the minute details of what sets a species apart, while making something beautiful enough that someone will remember that boring little detail.

I live in Arvada, Colorado with my husband, twin boy and girl, and golden retriever. I am currently accepting freelance illustration jobs.
